WHAT IS A RAISED DOUGHNUT VS. A CAKE DOUGHNUTS?
The trademark of a raised doughnut is its airy, fluffy texture. Our raised doughnuts are made with brioche dough and topped with a variety of house-made glazes, frostings, and toppings. Brioche is a rich, tender, yeast dough made with eggs, milk, and butter.
Often referred to as “Old Fashioned”, cake doughnuts are made in the style of a traditional cake batter with butter, sugar, eggs, and dairy. Our cake doughnuts have a tender crumb and a rich, yet delicate taste. We make frostings and glazes to complement the texture and style of our cake doughnuts.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DO YOU USE TO MAKE YOUR DOUGHNUTS?
Raised Doughnuts: flour, sugar, butter, eggs, milk, yeast, nutmeg, lemon, salt
Vanilla Cake Doughnuts: flour, sugar, butter, eggs, dairy, leavener, vanilla
Chocolate Cake Doughnuts: flour sugar, butter, eggs, dairy, eggs, leavener, cocoa powder, nutmeg
Vegan Dougnuts: flour, sugar, soy milk, oil, Ener-G egg replacer, leavener, salt, lemon nutmeg
All our doughnuts are fried in soy oil.
I HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES? DO YOU OFFER ANYTHING THAT IS WHEAT/NUT/DAIRY-FREE?
We take allergies very seriously.
We have one set of equipment for the production of our doughs and the frying of our doughnuts. Therefore, all doughnuts are prepped and fried on the same equipment.
Our non-vegan doughnuts contain wheat, dairy eggs, and soy. Our menu changes seasonally, and we may serve a doughnut that contains nuts. If a doughnut contains nuts, the nutty ingredient will either be a topping or a filling and it will be explicit in the description and the name. While we do not include nuts or nut products in the dough, we cannot guarantee that there may be some cross-contamination. When we do have a nut doughnut, we do follow best allergen practices by glazing and filling in a nut free area.
DO YOU OFFER VEGAN DOUGHNUTS?
Yes, Blackbird Doughnuts does have vegan options. This is a dietary affirmation, not an allergy-free confirmation. These doughnuts are not made with any animal products. Our vegan doughnuts are prepared on the same equipment and use the oil as our non-vegan doughnuts.
DO YOU OFFER GLUTEN-FREE DOUGHNUTS?
We do not. All our doughnuts are wheat flour-based and are made onsite at our production facility in Brighton. We could never guarantee a gluten-free offering would be free from cross-contamination.
SHOULD I KEEP DOUGHNUTS IN THE REFRIGERATOR?
Our doughnuts are prepared and fried each day and are made with no preservatives. Our doughnuts are freshest when consumed the same day as purchase. If for some reason they are not consumed that day, we suggest that they are refrigerated and bumped in the microwave for 7 seconds.
CAN YOU INDIVIDUALLY WRAP MY DOUGHNUTS SO THEY ARE COVID SAFE?
Yes! You can add individual wrapping to our assorted dozens through the catering page on our website. If you're looking for a more custom selection, you can contact our office or email our catering manager at firstname.lastname@example.org. Our store staff will not be able to individually package them at pickup.
DO YOU MAKE CAKES?
We do! We stack two of our cake doughnuts, fill the center with our mixed-berry jam, and frost with house-made buttercream. The cakes feed 2-4 people and start at $26. We have customizable add-ons you can choose from on the catering page of our website, as well as a monthly cake special. The cakes are made to order and we require a minimum of 24 hours notice to accommodate.
